When I was born, I changed their status -
to parents and grandparents.
When
I was little - they were big - really big!
When
I was older - and I grew taller - they got smaller.
When
I was a parent, I changed their status again - to grandparents &
great-grandparents.
When
they were newlyweds - they became parents - I was their child.
When
their parents became grandparents - I was a grandchild.
When
they were happy, I was happy!
When
they were gone, they changed my status sadly.
When
my children had children - they changed our status - to grandparents.
When
I am able, I spoil my grandchildren, share stories, history of the
family,
and
everything their parents said "No" to - within reason, after all,
I
was the parent once upon a time.
When my great grandchildren come along -
if the fates allow - I will tell them
all about my life and those before me. I will spoil them rotten and
within some
limits, even more than their parents because - after all, I was a
grandparent first. and they changed my status so it's only fair I tell
them about all my parents, grandparents, and their parents!
I
shall see to it the next generation knows the status rules.
I
wish I had known them before I got here.
Rules
You will become "them" eventually!
Always be yourself for your status will change as life goes on.
Always remember your elders and share their stories - their lives.
Always be a mother first - friend second.
Learn to wear many "hats" - you will need them for the status changes.
(New mother - Mommy is a grandma - grandma is a great-grandma! Or Baby
girl- Mommy's darling daughter, always Grandma's darling
grand-daughter, young wife - husband's darling wife, still grandma's
darling ,
new mom - parents for us and adding "G‘s" to the elder's titles. It is
a status I am very proud of and I like the hat very much too!)
Take pictures & write your thoughts down about
everyone & everything!
Ask questions! (Grandma is gone and that grandchild status of mine
just took a blow!)
Always take pictures! Generations together, the
more the better! (I already said that... take more pictures! For
you may never get all these darling women together in this life.)
Don't forget about grandpa! He has put up with daughters, grand
daughters, great-grands and a lot of nieces. He wore as many hats as we
women - poor guy!
